If direct coombs is positive, an elution will be reflexed, resulting in additional charges. This preparation concentrates antibody activity and may enable identification of weakly reactive antibodies.
Methodology: Micro Testing System (MTS)
Specimen Requirements: SAMPLE MUST ARRIVE WITHIN 4 HOURS OF DRAW.
1 pink-top (EDTA) tube (minimum: 6.0 mL of EDTA whole blood). Forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
NOTE:
Lavender-top is also acceptable.
SST tube is not acceptable.
Do not centrifuge.
NEWBORN:
Cord blood specimen submitted in a plain, red-top tube and a lavender-top tube. If cord blood is not available, collect blood (heel stick) in a lavender-top microtainer. Forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
