Meadville Medical Center (MMC) announced today that the State Board of Nursing voted unanimously in favor of MMC’s application to establish a practical nursing program.
“We strongly believe that Crawford County needs to maintain a practical nursing program, and after months of hard work we have achieved our goal! Applications are now open and we look forward to welcoming our first class of students in the fall,” stated Valerie Waid, Chief Nurse Executive at MMC.
Since announcing MMC’s intention of starting a practical nursing program, more than 100 individuals have reached out with an interest in enrolling. High school graduates can apply at institute.mmchs.org. The program lasts for one year. The practical nursing students will work closely with dedicated faculty and highly qualified professionals at MMC.
“Preserving a strong workforce of nurses has been a challenge for a long time. The impact of persistent National nursing shortages can devastate rural hospitals. I believe that this program, along with other exciting opportunities that we expect to announce soon, will assist us to provide quality care to our patients ,while providing excellent job opportunities,” continued Waid.
“Years ago, Spencer Hospital as well as Meadville City Hospital each had their own Nursing schools. The nurses that graduated from those programs were second to none. It is an honor to serve our community by creating a school of nursing in Meadville Medical Center’s Institute for Healthcare Professionals.” concluded Waid.
