Meadville, PA – Governor Tom Wolf today announced that he has nominated Dr. Denise Johnson to serve as Pennsylvania’s physician general.
Dr. Johnson has served as Meadville Medical Center’s (MMC) Chief Medical Officer since 2008 and spent 13 years in private practice as a board certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist prior to joining MMC’s administrative team. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and serves on the Governor’s Commission for Women.
“I cannot think of a more fitting person to be the next Physician General of Pennsylvania. Dr. Johnson is not only a highly qualified physician, she is devoted to serving our community and now the entire Commonwealth. She will be truly missed at every level of our organization, however, I cannot wait to see what she accomplishes in Harrisburg, ” stated Philip Pandolph, Chief Executive Officer, MMC.
A search committee comprised of MMC administrative staff, board members, and medical staff leaders will field candidates and select MMC’s next Chief Medical Officer over the weeks ahead.
“I am incredibly honored to be afforded the opportunity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of the Commonwealth. Meadville Medical Center has been my home for the past 25 years, I will certainly miss this role,” commented Dr. Johnson.
Dr. Johnson will continue as MMC’s Chief Medical Officer until March 26th when she will transition to her new role on March 28th.
