Meadville Medical Center (MMC) has embarked on the process of establishing a training program for individuals wanting to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The training program, which will be under the MMC Institute for Healthcare Professionals (Institute), is the first educational-based program offered by MMC.
Like the current practical nursing program offered at the Crawford County Career and Technical Center, which is completing their final year in operation, students will complete the requirements within one year and end the program as a “Practical Nurse”, they then have to take their boards to be Licensed. “Interest and support from organizations like Wesbury, St. Paul’s Senior Living Center, Crawford County Care Center, and Crawford County Career and Technical Center have shown that working toward preservation of a local LPN program is important. Without financial support and advocacy from the Crawford County Commissioners and Senator Michele Brooks, I’m not sure MMC would be able embark on this important endeavor, so we owe them a debt of gratitude,” stated Valerie Waid, Chief Nurse Executive at MMC.
“We’re very excited about the opportunity to offer educational programs for individuals interested in pursuing healthcare-related careers. Our goal is to start with an LPN program and potentially expand to other in-demand healthcare jobs. We are optimistic this will benefit MMC and other local healthcare providers, as well as, benefit the entire community by preserving and enhancing local access to in-demand healthcare-related careers.” stated Philip Pandolph, President and Chief Executive Officer at MMC.
The anticipated start date for opening the Institute is late 2024, however interested students may get more information by contacting the Institute’s Director, Tammy Sanfilippo.
“After serving in various nurse leadership roles at MMC, I look forward to helping others accomplish great things in healthcare. We not only want to expand the opportunities locally, but the goal is to really engage with our students and provide a high-quality program. This will not only be a school, but a truly immersive experience where graduates make an immediate impact upon entering the workforce,” stated Ms. Sanfilippo.
The Institute for Healthcare Professionals will have a website with more detailed information in the coming months. Follow Meadville Medical Center on Facebook and LinkedIn for updates.
