National Physical Therapy Month is celebrated every October by the American Physical Therapy Association to raise awareness about the value and benefits of the field. Highlighting the staff and expertise of the physical therapy department at Meadville Medical Center is Physical Therapy Manager, Ryan Brennan (far left, second row), who says:
We have an amazing team! The community is very fortunate to have such a talented, experienced, and caring group of individuals who work tirelessly to help their patients. I am proud to be part of this department, and we have come a long way in the fifteen years since I started working at MMC. Our team continues to grow and now we offer more specialty services than ever before. This is why people choose MMC for their therapy needs. The positive impact that our department has on this community is quite something if you really think about it.

Meet MMC's Physical Therapy Teams

MMC's Outpatient Physical Therapy Staff at One Vernon Place.
Our outpatient department consists of 20 physical therapists and physical therapist assistants. Last year, the department completed over 25,000 visits, treating patients with a variety of neurological and orthopedic conditions. Many of our therapists have doctorate degrees, in addition to advanced education and/or certifications in the areas of lymphedema, sports medicine, vestibular/concussion/dizziness, manual techniques, aquatics, pediatrics, women’s health and Parkinson’s Disease.
Grove Street Transitional Care Unit (TCU) Physical Therapists
Kristen Harrington, Samantha Conley, and Janelle Woodruff are Meadville Medical Center’s physical therapy team on the Transitional Care Unit and Grove Street’s General Surgical Unit. Most often, patients on the transitional care unit are more medically complex or require skilled assist for safe mobility. The patients have a short term stay to assist them in transitioning safely from an acute hospital stay to a proper discharge location. These compassionate inpatient physical therapists focus on increasing overall function and independence in preparation for the next step, with an ultimate goal of returning home. They will focus on increasing your strength, endurance and balance while teaching fall prevention strategies and recommendations in order for you to succeed.
Acute Care Physical Therapists from LIberty Street Hospital
If you have been hospitalized, then you know how difficult it can be to move around and function normally while there. An illness, surgery, or injury may prevent you from moving around normally. With so many barriers to normal movement in the hospital, your body may quickly lose strength, and you may have difficulty with functional mobility. Acute care physical therapists evaluate your functional mobility when you are in the hospital and offer techniques to help you improve your mobility, and get you back home safely. Mel Burger and Al Hartick are Meadville Medical Center’s acute care physical therapists. They go above and beyond to help our community get back on their feet.
MMC Physical Therapy Office Coordinators
Karen Nies, Cindy Flick, Sarah Higgins, Tammy Williams and Janette Cadman are our amazing office coordinators. Our office coordinators are extremely important to our operations and without them our department could not function. Our office coordinators handle all of the scheduling, faxing, insurance checks, authorizations, therapist support and many other important job duties throughout their day.
MMC Physical Therapy Aides
Sumako Mead, Madison Kerns, Kendra Stewart, Maddison Scott, and Renee Allen make up the therapy aide team. Our therapy aides provide support by assisting the therapist during a patient’s treatment session. This helps to ensure that patients are safe as they are working with our therapists. Our aides also have an important job in maintaining a safe, clean and professional environment for our therapists and patients.
