The Meadville Area Free Clinic has been providing free health care to residents of Crawford County since 1997. Even though it has been in operation for quite a few years, many community members may not know about its existence.

Whom Does the Free Clinic Treat?

The clinic treats about 500 patients per year. The number would probably be much higher if everyone in the community realized it is for those without health insurance. Health care services are available to those individuals ages 18 to 65 who do not have health insurance, medical assistance, Medicare, or VA benefits. Those with chronic health problems such as asthma, high blood pressure, or diabetes, can receive care and monitoring at the Meadville Area Free Clinic. If a medical condition exists that cannot be handled by the clinician, referrals are made to specialists.

Who Provides Medical Treatment and Financial Support?

Professional staff is either licensed or certified in their field and all services are provided strictly on a volunteer basis, including a volunteer staff. Financial support is from individual and corporate support, the United Way of Western Crawford County, and Crawford Gives contributions. Depending on a patient’s income level, some pharmaceuticals are provided for free.
